A letter to the Editor.

It saddens me to see headlines like the one in Saturdays paper "Will the environment survive the environmentalist". I can tell you it won't survive without them. In a recent report out by the EPA "It is very likely" that the poor, elderly, and those in inner cities will likely die due to extreme hot periods in future years. A report by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change echoes the same tone. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (mentioned in the article in Saturdays paper) comes out of the current administration. Due to their inconsistency and "unsureness" the current administration will be allowed to do nothing, saving it for the next adminstartion (startribune.com)In the United States its easy to not fully understand the depth of our over consumption because we do not see the devestaiton it causes to the poor. Some choose the word "liberal" or "environmentalist" to mean radical and often "not Christian". There are many of us out here working to make it be known that the environment is not just about trees and animals its also about us, we are "nature" and if we Christians believe that God gave us a world to look after then we ought to do so. We too are dependent on nature and we either anty up or face the consequences. I would like to leave my four kids a better world. We are not so worried that our kids have the name brand, the best house, ivey leauge schools as we are that they have a clean and compassionate world to live in.
