Hot Spring's Compact Group

Tonight a great group of friends gathered to start our version of "The Compact" here is the email that was a compilation of our meeting. Hope you enjoy. Thanks to everyone who has read my blog, I'm very grateful to you.
What we figured out: We have various reasons for doing this and have different areas we are concerned with.
We agreed to each consider following to the best of our individual ability the basics of The San Francisco Compact http://sfcompact.blogspot.com/2006/01/new-years-resolution.htmland The 21 Day Money Fast http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/12/31/AR2009123103495.html
I got tickled at how everyone who attended is already so far beyond the average American in money and resource management, and it made me really proud to call you all my friends.

Here is a list of our goals :

* Barter, Borrow, and buy used when possible
* Only buy necessities or in certain cases, like John, to resell.
* Rethink shopping, not only going to the stores but online shopping as well.
* Some will choose not be buying anything except food, meds, & hygiene products (alcohol was a big issue here for most of us,most of us agreed to discern this purchase as individuals) We thought we may need a separate support group :).
* Take it to the next level: take the measures we already do to the next step, for instance driving less, turning the thermostat down another degree, giving a homemade gift, going longer for haircuts, etc....

Next week Bring something you think someone else would like.
We will talk about having an official barter day!!!
Journal your experience and thoughts over the week and bring it to share.

Past post on money saving and cutting back on consumer purchasing:http://courtney-greengirl.blogspot.com/2008/12/green-budgeting-and-budgeting-green.html

We will meet at 6:p.m. on Thursdays at The Art Church through Easter week 2010.
