Day Trippin on the Cheap
So today I told Blake that I think my idea of cheap fun does not equate with about 90% of American's idea of cheap. No sir, my idea of cheap fun is anything priced at or under what it cost in 1993. That is when I got stuck in the time warp. We started having children in 1993, seems like yesterday in my mind. It must be when we stopped paying attention to everything around us and only focusing on our babies. My babies are teenagers now and it's pretty much costing us a fortune to keep them in clothes and fed on a daily basis.
We are amazed when Blake and I go out to eat at how cheap it is. The two of us can have a decent meal for $25. When we take the kids it's an easy $70 for an average meal. Not planning is a bad idea, but sometime when you are in a big hurry there is no time for planning.....such was the case today. We decided to go to "The River Market" in downtown Little Rock. The kids ate a Nathans hot dog with chips $7.40, drinks for $2.39 and a cupcake $4.50, probably the least healthy meal ever but it came in at $14.20 for two kids. Blake went for Japanese for $9.50, I went for Thai and ordered Curry and Spring Rolls with two drinks for $13 = All total we spent about $37 for four people. Not great. In hindsight I would have let the kids have hot dogs and drinks and shared a vegetarian entree with Blake. Next dessert would come from the Central Ar. Library Cafe - Cupcakes $1. I figure we could eat for $25 now with hindsight.
Across the street from the River Mrkt. is the Central Ark. Library Bookstore, which is totally cool. We perused for an hour and bought three used books for $19. Pricier than Hot Springs Library bookstore, but a great selection and the money supports a great cause- The Library:).
We then walked down to the Bodega and got a cookie $3, and not very good.
Our entertainment was "The Old Statehouse Museum". It was pretty cool, especially the price $free.... you can leave a donation if you like, and we did. The kids really enjoyed the exhibits, we enjoyed the exhibits, air condition, and place to sit our tired selves down.
My daughter, Felisha, really enjoyed the ball gowns and clothes by Arkansas first ladies. Miller really enjoyed the Bad Guys exhibit. Tons of confiscated gambling paraphernalia was on display from Hot Springs hay day, including many photos of gangsters that visited and were sometimes arrested on their stay in the Spring.
